Construction Industry Scheme - CIS
The construction industry is one of the most volatile sectors in the UK economy, and careful planning and advice are needed to maintain efficiency and competitiveness. With years of experience in this sector, we pride ourselves on having an understanding of the specific problems faced by builders, building and civil engineering contractors, civil engineering consultants and sub-contractors, and in being able to recommend effective solutions.
The introduction of the revised rules for the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) that came into effect on 6 April 2007, brought with it a massive compliance burden for owner managers. Although there were some positives however the negatives far outweigh these.
For instance from April 6 there will no longer be any need for CIS cards, certificates, vouchers or CIS annual returns. On the other hand you, the contractor, will be directly responsible for the verification of your sub-contractors with HMRC, monthly submission of sub-contractor returns etc.
